metal bark

i randomly received a catalog in the mail from a company called Gumps, which is a store based in San Francisco- i found these metal vases cast from real birch trees, yet are in copper and aluminium. these could be quite stunning juxtaposed in a modern setting. i think i'd probably display them as is, without anything in them.

So cool. It's great that Gump's is moving into more interesting ground, design-wise. While growing up in the Bay Area x-number of years ago, I always had the impression that Gump's was where helmet-headed SF society ladies bought their luxe-but-boring tchotchkes. But Gump's last 2 mail order catalogs have proven me wrong. Some great Asian/Modern pieces in there!
funny, i had never heard of Gumps before, until i got the catalog in the mail- was it always more "ladies who lunch"? it felt kinda like a slightly more ethnic version of The Bombay Company.. but i agree that they actually had a lot of nice asian/modern items in and of themselves, that just needed to be styled differently...
When I moved to Beverly Hills I noticed it definitely had some helmet-headed hold outs, or at least that was the impression I got when I went into a place called Gearys. To give you an idea, I guess a week before E-Taylor and made a guest appearance. :| Anywho, I did like the Cristobal Coral collection the had there (link) but they could benefit from some more modern, non-elizabth-taylor-priced items.
